The canton of Geneva is home to the Red Cross and numerous other international organizations such as the United Nations European Headquarters which supports the WHO, UNICEF, UNHCR, UNAIDS, ILO, and many more health, development, and human rights organizations. As a center for diplomacy and near-universal representation of states, Geneva is truly an ideal hub for international and interdisciplinary collaboration among people from all walks of life to discuss matters of peace, trade, the environment, and global health.
This concentration of international organizations provided me the chance to meet fellow interns working at nearby humanitarian and health organizations. Hearing about their passions for working in different sectors for health along with our shared curiosity about Switzerland enabled me to form some amazing friendships during my time here.
We would take every chance we had each weekend to travel, visit the alps, and experience Swiss culture in its many forms. Some of our travel highlights would definitely be visiting the Jungfraujoch (the Top of Europe), Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, and the Aiguille Du Midi (which is the highest cable car in France that took us to the closest view of the famous Mont-Blanc)!
Switzerland is truly an amazing and packed place with a plethora of activities, events, and magnificent scenery. There is constantly something new to discover in every excursion or conversation with someone here and one simply cannot possibly leave this country saying they have experienced it all- so you can certainly expect me to be back soon~
