Admissions

All secondary students, regardless of streams of study, are welcome to apply for admission to the Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Global Health and Development [BASc(GHD)] programme. 

Admissions Information:

JUPAS (JUPAS Code: JS6250)

HKDSE students should apply through the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS).

Programme Entrance Requirements

From 2022 onwards, the result of the Mathematics Extended Part (Modules 1 and 2) will be recognised as equivalent to that of a full elective. 

In addition to satisfying the University entrance requirements, candidates for admissions shall satisfy all of the following requirements in HKDSE:

a) achieve the level of performance in the four core subjects as below:

English ^
Level 4
Chinese
Level 3
Mathematics
Level 2
Citizenship and Social Development
Attained

Candidates with level 4 in English Language, if admitted, will be required to take 6 additional credits in Core University English to complete their degree studies.

b) attain at least level 3 in two electives

Scoring Formula

  • The best 5 subjects of HKDSE*

  • All subjects are equally weighted

may include M1/M2 or Category C subject whichever is higher

The University is changing the JUPAS scoring system by giving bonus points to applicants with high levels of achievement in subjects in their HKDSE. The dedication and diligence of students in achieving Level 5, 5* or 5** in the HKDSE subjects are attributes that HKU wishes to reward appropriately.

Specifically, HKU's new JUPAS admissions system will give bonus points on top of the present scores attached to each Level as follows:

  • 0.5 bonus points to any Level 5 subject;

  • 1 bonus point to any subject with Level 5*; and

  • 1.5 bonus points to any subject with Level 5**.

These will be used in calculating a new JUPAS score for applicants to HKU.

This is, in effect, a new scoring system for JUPAS, as follows:

Interview

Preference will be given to candidates who put BASc(GHD) in Band A. For 2023/24 admissions, shortlisted candidates will be invited for an admissions interview in June/July 2024.
