Global Health and Development Leadership Camp 2019

camp2019.jpg

Overview

This 4-day/3-night Global Health and Development (GHD) Leadership Summer Camp will introduce campers to an infectious disease outbreak via a series of table-top exercises. Students will be exposed to real-world issues and learn about decision-making processes. Through multiple scenarios reflecting real situations, campers will learn that outbreaks encompass a complex mix of concerns, perspectives and disputes. Students will learn crucial problem-solving skills such as leadership, diplomacy, investigation, negotiation, advocacy, strategic planning, teambuilding, communication, critical thinking, public speaking and emotional intelligence.

Campers will be grouped into Country Teams and be exposed to issues such as public and media communications, allocation of scarce resources, negotiations and health system related concerns.

In addition, campers will go on fieldtrips to further broaden their horizons. A prominent line-up of international and local experts will serve as coaches and mentors. Ultimately, these activities will expose campers to some of the most fundamental questions that individuals, societies and countries confront during emergencies.

Campers will also be able to learn more about the Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Global Health and Development [BASc(GHD)] programme (JS6250), which will be admitting its first intake of students in September 2019. The first of its kind in Asia, this interdisciplinary programme will provide students with the knowledge and competencies to succeed within today’s rapidly evolving international and interdisciplinary environment and to contribute towards solving today’s most pressing GHD challenges. The camp will close with a high table dinner and certificate award ceremony in the evening of the last day.
